What to Expect during a Physical Therapy Session

Our goal at Advanced Training and Rehab is to ensure you receive the best care and service. Whether you’ve had physical therapy before, or you’re new to the process, it’s important to know what to expect to get the most out of each session and your treatment as a whole.

What Happens at Your First Visit to Advanced Training and Rehab

For your first physical therapy session, please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for paperwork and administrative matters. Your therapist will do a complete evaluation with you including medical history, current symptoms, and pain levels. During this time, you’ll receive a plan of care from your therapist that will give you an idea of what to expect moving forward and throughout your treatment.

What to Wear and What to Bring to Your Physical Therapy Session

Wear or bring loosely-fitting clothing that allows access to the area of the body requiring treatment. For example, if you’re receiving therapy for your knee, wear shorts or loose pants that can easily roll up to expose the joint. Overall, you will want to dress in gym clothes and tennis shoes that are comfortable, loose, and allow for easy movement.

Be sure to bring your prescription or referral order that your physician’s office has provided to your treatment sessions. Please bring your current insurance card, as well, if you are using insurance to cover treatment costs.

What to Know for Subsequent Physical Therapy Visits

Most physical therapy patients will require multiple sessions over an extended period of time for treatment. Each subsequent visit will consist of regular reassessment and treatment progression. These adjustments will allow you to continue building strength and increasing mobility, helping you work towards your therapy goals.

Your Responsibilities with Physical Therapy Treatment

Throughout your treatment, it is important that you notify us of any upcoming appointments with your doctor. Prior to any appointment you have with your physician, we need to send his or her office a note on the progress made during your treatment, as well as future plans. It is also your responsibility to be compliant with the home exercises your therapist assigns to you. This “homework” will help us toward the goal of getting you well and pain-free as soon as possible.

Should you need to change an appointment for any reason, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance.

Most Insurances Accepted

Being able to properly heal from an injury, surgery, or orthopedic condition is essential. At Advanced Training and Rehab, we aim to make our physical therapy services affordable for those who need it. Whether you are insured or not, we will work with you to get the treatment you need.

We accept most major insurance plans and carriers for physical therapy treatment. If you have questions or would like to verify your plan is accepted prior to your visit, please contact us for more information. Be sure to bring your insurance card with you to your appointments.

We understand that not every patient has insurance, or may have a high deductible plan. In an effort to make our physical therapy services available for all, we offer affordable self-pay rates and options to work with you. Contact us for more information.

Patient Forms

To help save time, we encourage you to print and complete our patient forms prior to your first appointment. If you have any questions or concerns while reviewing these documents, please do not hesitate to contact us.

“As a coach, I took a great deal of pride in having a positive relationship with my players and staff. From the first time I walked into the Advanced Training and Rehab Kirkwood location, I felt a special positive energy from all the staff members. Doing physical therapy or a work out is never easy, especially when you are recovering from surgery or an injury. A smile, a friendly conversation and positive support make a difficult task seem a much easier to accomplish! After 3 months of physical therapy I highly recommend the TEAM at Advanced Training and Rehab Center. The staff is knowledgeable and cares about each of their clients.”

Chris Kerber

"ATR is not just a place you go to rehab an injury or recover from surgery. It’s a group of dedicated physical therapists who cares for each patient with personal, knowledgeable and experienced care. When physical rehab is required for me or my family, I request ATR because I trust them explicitly. They have cared for me for over 20 years – shoulder surgery, back surgery, and other weekend warrior injuries. They have cared for my wife and three active and athletic daughters. Brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews use them because of that level of trust and care. You have a choice in your post injury care. Tell your doctor you want to go to Advanced Training and Rehab for your care like I do!"
